Hooker Valley in Mount Cook National Park

Hooker Valley in Mount Cook National Park

The sign announcing the start of the trail.
We had driven a long way off the main road to reach here but all the scenery was spectacular.
This is Muellers Lake, near the start of the trail.
There were several wire suspension foot bridges to cross, and all of them swing from side to side and up and down as you crossed.
A view down the river from the bridge.
The second suspension bridge.
A view upstream from the bridge.
Snow on the upper slopes, even at the height of summer, partly obscured by the low clouds.
A view from the bridge.
The last suspension bridge.
The lake at the end of the trail, looking west with snow and low cloud on the upper slopes.
Ice bergs that have carved from the glacier.
The glacier from a distance that fills the lake with its runoff.
The turquoise waters of lake Pukaki that we had driven along side to reach the national park but the cloud and rain had obscured its colour until our return.

Another view of Lake Pukaki, a long lake but nt the largest or longest in the country.
