Picton New Zealand
We left Picton and their budgies in cages.
Another bird but this one was too busy preening to pose for photo.
A piece of excellent engineering.
A view of the Marlborough vineyards.
One of the vineries.
A railway marshalling yard next to the vinery through the trees.
More vines.
More great engineering, also serving another purpose to provide shade.
More engineering...
...and some people like myself just can't get enough...
Some recently built sea wall to protect the road.
More protection to protect the base of the cliff.
Sea walls still being completed after the most recent earthquake to protect the road.
Seals on the shore. My lunch, a beer and a huge crayfish.
And I was being watched by a hopeful and hungry NZ seagull.
Yet more seals.
Some of the improved road and rail connections following the earthquake.
The arch in Christchurch.
A fish in the local river that runs through the centre of christchurch.
And a black swan with its distinctive red beak.
A local tram.
And a traditional tram.
Many of the buildings survived the earthquake but there are still lots of empty plots in or near the city centre.
Another survivor, the local university...
...another university building...
...but some have been shored up and are still awaiting earthquake proofing to preserve them.
The main entrance...
...and a detail.
The museum.
And a host of photos of the Botanical Gardens and their flower beds in various colours...
And then it was time to leave Christchurch.
