Oslo to Bergen by train

 Oslo to Bergen by train

It took a while to escape the urban sprawl of the city but we were soon overlooking forest and a river as we headed west for our seven hour journey to Bergen.
One of several dams on rivers to produce hydroelectric power.
A view from above the dam.
Sometimes it was difficult to get a photo as when there is a clear view, in no time at all, it is obscured again.
A lucky view of the forest.

Another dam.
Travelling at sped often blurred the photo as trees jumped into view and the camera didn't have time to adjust its focus...

...and sunlight reflection damaged several shots.
A view of the river.
Damn trees in the way of a traditional farm.
Large round bales of hay, wrapped in white plastic waiting to be collected to fed the animals over winter.

Civilisation and after a couple of hours, the first sidings and marshalling yards with wagons in view ready to be loaded with timber rounds for a sawmill somewhere.
A traditional farmhouse set above a barn so that the farmer didn't have to go outside to feed the animals, and the heat from the animals rose to help keep the house warmer. Turf was used on the roof as a form of early green roof to collet mixture in summer to grow and as additional insulation in winter.
Not river view...

...and another...

...the river with power lines in the middle running from an hydroelectric plant further up river.
A tight bend, so tight that you can just make out the end of the train in the centre of the photo.
Sometimes we were near the river and at other we were way above it.

Some farms on the far (south facing) slopes of the valley.

White water cascading over rapids.

Trees and farmland.
The sun has gone, the temperature fallen 12 degrees centigrade and it is beginning to snow as we head west.
Snow covered landscape.
Snow settling on roofs and cars (not in picture)
Avalanche protection and then the visibility was too poor to take photos and there were just dark shapes on a background of white.
