4th July

Happy Independence Day to Bob

We packed camp away for a 6kms paddle past a recent landslip to Linda's bakery. a most interesting place on the bank miles from any where Linda sells coffees and teas plus a selection of home made cakes to passing paddlers.

Although we had had coffee in camp we still stopped for another coffee and a cake. I christened the rather ineffective Husky guard dog Iceberg due to its colouring and the fact that it didn't move all the time we were there but Linda informed me that his name was Tony...I thought my name was better.

Later that day we were rewarded with a sighting of a male moose and just a bit further down the river we saw two yearlings swimming across the river. The animals are small at this range but they really are there.

We passed the confluence of the White River that drains the Kluane national park and its various glaciers, climbing a hill opposite to get a better view and one of my netter attempts at a selfie that didn't cut my face in half.

That evening Bob shared a beer with me to celebrate 4th July that he had carried for the last week just for this occasion.

You know you are a \Yukoner when...

...it is normal to find shotgun cartridges in your jeans before putting them in the wash
...you are not sure whether to load a slug for bears or 40 gauge buckshot for mosquitoes

...you take a shotgun with you to go to the shops
