Return to Whitehorse and on to Alaska, Friday 17th - 19th July

We were being picked up by air taxi and a little later than ordered our plan arrived landing on Lake Bennett. The pilot cut the engine and drifted to shore and got a paddle out to turn the aircraft around before tethering it to the shore.

It was a bumpy ride with waves on the lake for take off and cross winds all the way back to Whitehorse. We had great views of the lake and valleys as we flew just a few hundred feet above the ground to come into land on Lake Schwatka just above Whitehorse.

The pilots dog having a drink from the lake.

The next day was a couple of flights to get to Anchorage and the Backpackers Inn where the next morning was meeting up with another group to drive to Seward on the southern Alaskan shore. En route we stopped at a National Parks centre and took a trek up Byron Glacier and did a selfie.

Next stop was Seward, renowned for a 9.2 Richter scale earthquake in 1964 that together with a tsunami devastated the town so there is nothing older than that. The next day was just a relaxing day in camp to walk along the shore. I forgot my camera but we saw otters, whales and seals plus countless nameless birds. I won't make the mistake of going for a walk without a camera again!
