Madanna Creek and Carmacks

That evening we found a camp next to Madanna Creek, a small tributary with a beaver dam across it. As with most confluences this was a good spot to fish and Norman wasted no time to start fishing, closely followed by Michael a little later.

The next morning we went for a walk through a previously burnt piece of forest behind the camp site and up a hill to get a view. We could see back to Little Salmon where the fire had been and as there was no smoke rising it had obviously been put out.

We had a choice to either paddle a short distance to the next camp but this would mean getting up at 5am to reach Carmacks where several of the paddlers were due to be picked up at 10am to return to Whitehorse. The alternative was to paddle all day and arrive at The Coal Mine camp site at Carmacks, a designated camp site with facilities, hot water, showers, flush toilets, a shop and beer. Guess which option was preferred?
