Todays hike was another short distance from Lake Lindeman, just 11kms to Lake Bennett.
This was where most of the prospectors would build a boat or raft for the
journey along Bennett Lake, then Nares Lake and lastly Tagish Lake before the
water became the Yukon and flowed through Miles Canyon to Whitehorse.
A general picture of the trail.
A picture of the end of Lake Lindeman with the start of Lake Bennett just visible in the distance. The trail doesn't follow the shore but crosses the valley slope to avoid promontories and step cliffs that plunge into the lake. \en route we come across BAre Loon Lake, a small lake on the valley side where there is also a shelter where we had a cup of te.
Late in the morning we emerged from the forest to see a small trappers cabin with a small sheltered bay nearby. This was located on sand which meant that we were just 2km from Lake Bennett but theose next two kilometres would all be sand.
The White Pass and Yukon rail used to come this way but the tracks have been moved further up the valley side to reduce the distance and gradient leaving just an abandoned embankment.
The obligatory picture of me over looking Lake Bennett and Lake Bennett Station on the WP&Y Rail. This is the end of the trail. If you time you end point time and day just right, you can catch the train back to Whitehorse but there were no trains that day for us.
