Manaus
The grandest building in the city, the Opera House, completed in 1896 with materials imported from Europe......another side view...
...the grand facade, taken at an angle because...
...there are rees in the way. The fountain in the square in front of the Opera House and the dome of the opera visible above the trees.
...and pictures of the insides...
...the stge...
...some of the boxes...
...the governors box
...a detail of the ceiling.
One of mny orante doorways.
A view of the uditoriurm from one of the bozes.
After the Opera House, we tried to visit several museums but dispite claiming to be open, they were shut for May Day Bank Holiday. Instead we walked along the docks, a view of one of the piers and in the distance the new bridge over the Amazon, and there are no more for more than 3,500 kilometres downstream to the ocean.
