Saudi caves

 Saudi caves

We crossed back from Qatar into Saudi Arabia and into the Empty Quarter...and it was mostly as before, empty for hour after hour.
But we reached a large city with its tall buildings pushing up against the horizon through the haze brought on by the wind and dust in the atmosphere. This was Al Holuf, the largest city in the largest oasis in the world. We stopped at the caves.
Ther were walks up into the hills and unusual rocks shapes, carved by wind and rain erosion other thousands of years. Rgrtetably, the walks wer closed as were the museum and interesting rocks but the caves were open.
Just some of the rocks...
...and  view of some of the caves before were entered the cave centre.
And then there were masses of caves to explore....
...with strange formations...

...some lit by artificial light.

ANd then we went off to our bush camp in the desert overlooking a lake with a lot of wildfowl on it.
Just some of the islands in the lake....
...birds flying past the moon descending...

...looking back at camp...and then we set off to cross the causewat to reach Bahrain.
