Salalah, Southern Oman,
I took a taxi along the coast to a museum centred on the history of the area, not as I had misread about Frankimcense, the Museum of the Frankincense Land. It was mainly a maritime museum about trade and history, with just a mention of frankincense as it was produced locally and exported.Opposite is the Al Baleed Archaeological site, an important former trading port, located on a spit of land with the sea on one side and a creek on the other. One of the city walls.
The city walls facing the sea.
A raised concrete walkway with a dozen cafes and restaurants on it between the old city walls and the beach...totally destroying the ambience of the site.
Some of the reconstructed walls of the old city centre.
And back at the hotel, at 5pm, they turned on the Christmas lights on the tree in reception.
