En route to Glacier National Park, Monday 11th August

Whilst en route there was another train but didn't have many wagons...under seventy from memory.

We stopped off at Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump where for the last six thousand years, the native Americans have chased bison across the prairie and over the cliff and then process the meat, hides and bones. These are bison and historically and incorrectly referred to as buffalo which are separate species originating as the African cape buffalo and Asian water buffalo.

The cliff that the bison were driven over.
One that got away...the one on the right.
The camp site at Glacier National Park was a welcome sight but they have suffered from forest fires with up to 13% of the park affected in any one year. There was a pall in the air and it smelt of smoke as there were two fires already alight when we arrived.
It was a lovely morning.
The sun glinted off the windows of the bus.

There was still smoke in the air when we woke up...and that in the picture is mostly smoke, not mist.

After breakfast we were ready to see the park.
