We left the camp site to do a bit of sight seeing. Just out of town, the broken down train was still where it was the night before but as we were driving along the valley bottom we didn't get a good view of it.
We climbed up the side of the valley to visit Dead Horse Point. The area is arid but horses used to roam the top of the mesa.
Dead Horse Point is where there is a large bend in the river the shape of a horse shoe that has left a piece of the mesa nearly cut off from the rest of the mesa with plunging cliffs all the way around except that narrow neck of land. People used to round up the feral horses and herd them here where they only needed to fence the narrow neck of land. They cut out the good horses and left the bad ones corralled here to die.
Next was the short drive to Canyonlands NP to visit the Island in the Sky area of the park.
Grand View Point Overlook.
Plus Penelope the Packrat bombing one of my photos.
Buck Canyon.
Green River Lookout.
Me in my other shirt but still wearing the floral shorts.
Paola on the other rock to my right.
Upheaval Dome with Colin taking a photo. It was formed either by a meteorite or is a salt dome and experts can't agree.
Lastly Mesa Arch.
