Surat Thani to Ko Pha Ngan

Surat Thani to Ko Pha Ngan

We left our cosy Morning Mist Resort on the west side of the Thailand peninsula and set out for the three hour drive to the ferry terminal on the east side of the peninsula not far from Surat Thani. The ferry terminal.
An island off the coast near the ferry terminal.
This was to be our catamaran ferry to Koh Samui and finally for me, Ko Pha Ngan. The tarpaulin across the ows made it look like it was out of commission. In fact, one end was on the deck on top of which would be put our luggage and the large draping piece over the bows would be folded over the luggage and tied down.
Another view of the port facilities. It was a noisy place as remedial work was being undertaken and there was a lot of banging and drills being used.

It was the rainy season and several storms were coming through. Despite being a catamaran which are usually more stable in rough water, the boat pitched and yawed and it was a rough crossing.
We stooped at Koh Samui for just ten minutes and then continued on to Ko Pha Ngan. It wasn't far between the two islands but it was just as rough with a strong wind and large swells. Everyone was grateful to reach the harbour.
I took a taxi to my resort, Beck's Resort, a little out of town to be away from the all night parties, the open air discoes,  the Moon Parties and general nightlife, but not too far away so as to be able to walk into the centre should I want. But my resort was overlooking a quiet bay...
...and just along the coast was a kite surfing school, an ideal opportunity to try another sport, especially as the wind was just right.

And there was of course a coconut tree on the shore, growing out over the sea.
