Luang Prabang

 Luang Prabang

I had arrived in Luang Prabang, the former royal capital but there were no options to see the former royal palaces. But there were plenty of other things to see.

Just one of many temples...

...a side view...
...one of many buldigs on the same site...
...plus some more structures...
...and another temple just yards away...
...with a statue of buddha.

I went to the nationa museum but it was closed.
I went to the elephant conservation centre. Despite the enticing photos of elephants in long grass on the website...it was just a shop, not the place where the rescued animals are kept.
The Mekong flows past the town...
...and everywhere there are glimpses of the river...

...and plenty of parked ferries but very few actually crossing th river.

There were plenty of interesting butterflies but few stood still for long enough to get a good photo.

Lunch...jaewbong, dried algae, deep fried with sesame seeds served with buffalo skin pieces marinaded in chilli.
