Chicken Bus to Hue

 Chicken Bus to Hue

It was time to move on from Savannakhet, a beautiful town with some French colonial archetectural influence and take the bus to cross the border into Vietnam to reach Hue...(before anyone points it out, its not spelt correctly but I haven't discovered the right key on my keyboard).

It was a chicken bus..there were two cages and a pair of birds tied together to travel with us.

Plus other good such as something in the cool box and a bag of what looked like walnuts.

At the border our group were through customs before the bus and we had to wait. Everything left on the bus got a thorough search and everything was opened. The locals were used to it and waited. We had taken all all our bags and had no contraband.
The rest of the journey was uneventful except for the driver being stopped for suspected speeding. And again.

We passed the railway.
And as luck would have it, the Saigon Express was passing. The city has changed its name to Ho Che Minh City, but the express's name survives.

I nearly got a photo of the engine but it was obscured by a lamppost.
