Newbies and the road to El Salvador Sunday & Monday, 4th 5th October

An evening view across the roof tops of Antigua.

That evening we went to a restaurant and in the corner on a shelf was an effigy of Maximon.

But this wasn't the effigy that I had particularly wanted to see which was at the other end of town in a bar and this one looked a lot more sinister together with offerings around the base.
A close up with the flash.
We were due to meet up with eleven new travellers who would be joining us for the last leg of the journey to Panama, leaving Antigua and crossing the border into El Salvador. Firstly it was a stop to get coffee for the coffeeholics.
En route to the border, a reminder to drive safely.
Some 10kms short of the border was the start of a long line of trucks blocking the road. This was a demonstration by lorry drivers at the length of time it takes to cross the border, made worse by lorries with perishable cargoes leapfroging to the front of the queue delaying everyone else.

Having had such fun with phrases in previous countries such as 'You'd better Belize it' and Belize it or not' followed by Guat ever' and Guat the fuck', it was always going to be difficult to work El Salvador into a phrase.

We arrived at our eco lodge to relax in the pool and have an evening meal on the beach at sunset.
