From Copan to Roatan Island in the Carribbean, Sunday 11th October.

It was four hour drive from Copan to San Pedro Sula across the north west corner of Honduras.

We stopped at bus stop en route where there were facilities, toilets, petrol, shops and cafes. Whenever a vehicle slowed, the street vendors would rush towards it to be the first to sell their wares to the passengers.

Then we got through the town od San Pedro Sula and out to the airport. We were due to fly the short trip from the mainland to the off shore island of Roatan. There were twenty of us so Seb took the first available seat on a scheduled flight and the nineteen of us had a whole plane to ourselves and were told that we would board at 2pm.

We were due to fly with SOSA but 2pm came and went and no sign of our plane. There were no staff around to find out any details except that the ground crew at the airport assured us that we would be called shortly. By 3pm we were still in the airport and tempers were fraying as SOSA kept us in the dark....Seldom on Schedule Airlines or Shit Operator, Shit Airline and several other variations.
After an hour and a half and more chasing staff for information we walked on to the tarmac to fly with CMA to the island. A group photo of us on the plane and the view from the front seats.

Finally we were away and our shadow followed us as we climbed to 9,000 feet and then descended steadily towards the small airstrip on Roatan.

We landed and got off and then there were more problems.
We waited at the carousel for our luggage but only half our bags came through. We then started chasing staff again for lost baggage as the plane that had brought us filled up with more passengers and took off down the runway. It turned out that the rest of our baggage had made an earlier scheduled flight and had been left in a corner of the airport to await us to pick up later.

We had a bus ride to our hotel on the beach and made our separate ways into town for an evening meal and gathered on the hotel landing stage for an evening swim before bed.
