Würzburg

Würzburg, regional capital of Franconia, a region within Bavaria

This is the Bishops Palace, and the Bishop Princes ruled the area but weren't popular especially as the community had to fund the building of the palace. It is so large that I had to stand a long way back to get it all in one photo which doesn't show the grandeur. It was built 1720 - 1744.

A detail of the main entrance plus a yellow VW Beatle. Unfortunately photos weren't allowed inside but the main staircase, white hall and music room are spectacular and original.
The side view.

The centre of the back of the palace seen from the gardens.
The very modest palace in comparison where the Bishop Prince lived during construction.
Some general views of the city. More than 90% of the city was destroyed during the Second World War so much is heavily restored or a reproduction.
A merchants house.
The castle where the Bishops lived before building the palace.
The town hall.
The main church.
An outside view of the stained glass window, best seen from inside but photos were not allowed. It is very colourful but its abstract modernist design is not my cup of tea.

A beautiful former merchants house.
A baroque church,
The cathedral.
A piece of modern sculpture.
