Regensburg

 Regensburg

Our walking tour started with a walk along the river to see the old stone bridge. We passed some gardens, a section of Medieval stone wall and behind it stretching several storeys up was an old looking building. It was the Duke of Bavaria’s family residence. The outer curtain walls were original but the old looking tall residence was actually a 19th century construction but built in an old style.

a view of the old harbour.
The old stone Medieval bridge across the river. It is too low and narrow for modern traffic which takes a canal 400 metres to the right.

A pretty building where Goethe spent a night and there is a palace to that effect.
The Roman entry to the city.

The tower that protects the gate.
The west facade of the cathedral.
The rich and prominent family built a tower next to their residences and this is the tallest in the city...but they were not allowed to build it higher than the town hell's tower.

The courtyard behind the residence and the tower.

Another tower and residence...more of a palace.

The old town hall...
...the building housing the grand hall...
...and the later building that linked the two.
a beautiful building.
The tower of the most popularly suggested best tower.
Finally. the tower at the end of the old  bridge. The Road used to go through the arch at the base of the tower but the building next door had its lower floors knocked through to accommodate modern traffic.
