Miltenberg

Miltenberg

A boat coming out of the lock.
A closer view
The Sundeck had to be folded away and all the chairs and tables put away to get under many of the low bridges.
We passed a boat yard.

Another view of the boat yard.
And then we moored and walked into Miltenberg. Looking up the street to one of the towers of the town walls.
A former merchants house and wine cellar built of the local red sandstone with stepped gables
Another former merchants house, now a restaurant.
The new town hall and square.
The mayors house next door.
A half timbered house.
The old bakery.
One of the town gates leading to the forest.
The new bakery.
The butchers house.

The oldest guest house in Germany, Die Risen meaning Giant.
They keep one of the rooms furnished as it would have been centuries ago.
A detail of the ceiling decorated with the coats of arms of prominent local families.

The front of the guest house.
Another half timbered house with an enclosed balcony.

A view of the castle on the hill.

The old town hall built of the local stone.
A detail of just two of the many carvings showing how high the river can become and flood the town.
One side of the old main square.
A cheeky state down by the river front.
The altar of the abbey. The old side was very plain but inside was very decorative.

The pulpit.
