Volkach

 Volkach

A beautiful little compact palace which is the centre of the Franconia wine producing area.

The town hall.
Many of the arches off the main street lead to courtyards with cafes and restaurants.
We stopped at a merchants house in a small street so I was unable to get far enough away to get a picture of the facade but this is the front door...

...and the entrance to the stables behind the house.
Every well to do house ought to have an impressive staircase although this one is modest compared to the Bishops Palace in Wurzberg but would have turned heads in a small town.

The oven in the main reception room to heat it in winter.
We were treated to a wine tasting session by an actor dressed in period costume as the owner of the house and the Wine Queen to taste the Silvaner and Bacchus varieties of the local wine.

One of the many half timbered buildings.
The local parish church tower just off the main square.
The baroque interior and a view of the altar.
The huge organ at the back of the church.
The pulpit along the south wall of the church.
The oldest guesthouse in the town.
One of the town towers on the wall surrounding the city.

Another of the towers.
