The World's highest railway, Xining to Lhasa

The World's highest railway, Xining to Lhasa

We took the overnight train from Xining.
And woke up on the Tibetan plateau.
It is an arid area.
But there are patches of green.
And surprisinhly, there are rivers and lakes.
One of the few signs of human involvement in the area.
Some green near a river but no fields, animals or houses.
Desert.
A bridge across one of the rivers.
A lake on the plateau near the pass, it highest point being 5,072 metres.
But otherwise empty.
Those dark blobs are yaks.
One section of elevatd track through the window.
Another lake with yaks.
And another...
...before descending from the plateau down a gorge...

...and the final approach to Lhasa just before nightfall.
