Cairns

Cairns

I did a quick tour of cairns in the morning before leaving.

Down on the seafront was a pelican, preening itself on the shore.
There was a ferris wheel on the sea front.
And a safe sea front public swimming pool in the park.
Another view across the swimming pool to some aquatic based art installations.
Old buildings are few and far between in the centre which is largely concrete steel and glass.
But a few old buildings survive.
A colourful mosaic surrounding an old tree in the high street.
A close up of another mosaic based seating area around another tree.
The cenotaph which was where the ANZAC Day memorial services would be held and I had to wait as soldiers and sailors were practising their drills for the big day.
And a visit to the local train station which revealed a tourist train about to leave for Kuranda...
...more carriages on the 14 carriage train...
...and the two locomotives that would be pulling the train. Some are steam engines but this train was to be pulled by diesels.
