Route 40 to Bariloche 9th - 11th January

We left Pucon to head towards the Chile - Argentina border but before we left the town I forgot to post a couple of photos, one of the black beach on the lake on one side of the town....

... and a couple of pictures of local wildlife that were walking around the camp looking for food.

Then it was a long drive up into the mountains that form the border between the town countries. We turned multiple hairpin bends and soon the trees changed and thinned and there were suddenly lots of monkey puzzle trees...a poor picture of a couple of them.
After the border the trees shined completely and it was high grassland plain with no trees and only a few fences to show that humans had ever been here.
Then we joined RouteNational No 40 which runs the length of Argentina through the mountains. It is considered one of the must do scenic routes for nearly its entire length as the scenery is varied and stunning. This is a couple of pictures of one of the many lakes in the area near the picturesque city of San Martin.

The scenery is constantly changing and after the lakes there were some wide open spaces.
