The Inca Trail Day 1

We left the hostel in Cusco at 6am to drive through the city to reach the start of the Inca Trial. We were driving through the mountains and there had been a landslide  but it only covered one side of the road so it didn't impede us but it did act as a reminder of the dangers in the mountains.

We stopped at a hostel cum restaurant for a buffet breakfast. And as luck would have it a train went past. The horn sounding had alerted me so that I was able to get outside with my camera just at the right moment.
We arrived at the start of the trail and unloaded our bags. Then those with poles went through the process of adjusting them to the right length.
Our porters were busy packing our camping stuff, our bags and food for the next few days

The group shot of us under the sign announcing the starting point of the Inca Trail at an elevation of 2,600m..
The bridge over the Urubamba river which would take us to the far side to start the trek.
Me at the start of the bridge.
Our guide, William in green talking to Maki, with the rest of the group behind on the trail.
A look back at the bridge.

Some of another group's porters carrying their heavy and bulky loads up the trail.
One of the many Inca sites that we would be passing.

Snow capped mountains and a reminder that that night's camp site would be cold, at an elevation of 3,000m. And that is the end of the first day.
