La Paz to Potosi, 21st December

It was a long drive day through the high plateau of Bolivia. The road was straight through very a very arid area.

The unchanging scenery was broken by the occasional ton with some bizarre structure in the centre of a roundabout.

The road was getting towards the salt pans and there were very flat areas running away from the mountains and a few industrial plants.
An unusual occurrence in this area...it started raining.

At last after following the railway line we eventually saw a train.

This is the dried up lake bed behind a dam that created a reservoir. There is a drought in Bolivia which has seen some of the driest rainfall recordings for several years with water shortages.
We arrived in Potosi and walked into the centre the city to the main plaza on out way to a restaurant and viewed more Christmas decorations.
And you could get a tractor ride around the plaza on a decorated trailer.
