Kilimanjaro, Fifth day on the mountain at Barafu Camp

 Kilimanjaro and Barafu Camp

The morning bleakness of Karanga Camp at breakfast.
Looking across the camp towards Mount Kibo and the summit.
A scree slope resting against teh summit with some snow on top.
Several climbers had arranged some towers of rocks.
A Health and Safety notice concerning altitude sickness reminding those that are suffering to listen to theie guide and seriously consider the option of descending to a lower altitude.
The greeting board at Barafu Camp, 4,763 metres and the last camp before the summit.
You can tell that it is cold up here as everyone is wearing their ski jackets and trousers.
The porters tent.
The lunch time soup and French bread.
And an early dinner, omlette, fried bread, salad and soup. and an early bed as the plan was to get up at 11pm and start out for the summit at midnight to be on top for the sunrise about 6.20am. And it would be a climb in the dark using headtorches and a vertical change in elevation of 1,132 metres up steep slopes to reach the summit at 5,89s metres.
