West Sussex had a lot of rain and the local rivers swelled and burst their banks. It was not as dangerous or as deadly as volcanic eruptions in New Zealand, out of control megafires in South and East Australia or flooding caused by typhoons in the Philippines but it was big news locally.
The railway between Gatwick and Brighton was flooded at Balcombe. The M23 north of Gatwick had both carriageways under water. A local bridge towards Broadbridge Heath had its foundations undercut and had to be shut. I couldn't get to those places so I could only take a few photos within walking distance of home for a few comparison shots, like a series of before and after shots but actually during and after...a few days later in brilliant sunshine.
The river near the house.
And a few days later.
A view of the river near the road bridge.
And now the water has gone.
The flooded playground of the local school.
Now the river has subsided, the shed can once again be accessed without getting your feet wet.
Downstream of the road bridge over Blackbridge Way.
The same tree now stands on the river bank rather than in the water.
The same bridge from a footbridge showing that the water level is at the level of the road.
The same bridge after the water level is getting back to normal levels.
A flooded Riverside Park with trees standing in water.
The water has seepeed away and the trees are once again surrounded by grass.
